5 Reasons To Start Self Care

Self-care doesn’t have to be another chore.

Self care is different for everybody and may well be different for you each day.

In this day and age where we are seeing messages everywhere to eat this, do this, exercise more, don’t do this, it is easy for us to develop ‘I should be doing lists’ which of course when we don’t do them can make us feel guilt, anxiety and failure. Sound familiar?

Incorporating self care activities – things that make you feel relaxed, calm, happy, engaged – can have very positive effects on our overall health and wellbeing and even improve our productivity and focus on our to do lists when we need to.

Just five benefits of adding in self care to your daily routine include:

·      Allows us to remain focussed and reduce feelings of being overwhelmed

·      Allows us to be present and available to others and nurture healthy relationships

Have a think to what things you might call self-care for example: creating mood lighting with candles in the evening, sitting with your partner for a glass of wine, heading out in the morning for an ocean swim or surf, giving your pet a hug, organising a date with a friend. Giving yourself 10minutes to stop rushing and put down that phone  All of these and more are actions of self care. It really is whatever makes you feel good.
